None of this takes long. The catch is that most of it has to happen before you order, not after.
Before you book
Confirm your ZIP is in the service areaCheckout verifies it, but knowing first saves you picking a package you can't have.
Check your HOA, building, or landlord rulesIf exterior decor is restricted where you live, that's yours to confirm ahead of time. All sales are final once an order is placed, so a restriction discovered afterward becomes a problem without a clean solution.
Decide on removalSeason removal is an add-on chosen at checkout, and you pick your removal week right there. If you'd rather not haul bales and softening pumpkins yourself in November, add it while you're ordering.
Decide who's arranging the displayIf it's you, plan to be around during your window. If it isn't, add professional design.
Once your window is confirmed
Clear the summer decorPlanters, flags, doormats, patio chairs, whatever's been out there since June. Fall material takes more room than people expect and you don't want to be shifting furniture around a pile of pumpkins.
Sweep and rinseStraw sheds and corn stalks shed more; starting from a clean surface means the only mess is the one your display makes.
Look at the floorLoose boards, soft spots, wobbly steps, cracked concrete. Straw bales are heavy and pumpkins are heavier — better to notice now than after 60 pieces are sitting on it.
Find where the water goesThe spot under the downspout, the corner that puddles, the low point in the concrete. That's where a straw bale should never sit.
Clearing the way for the crew
Send access details ahead of time — gate codes, locked side gates, the specific entrance you want used, a dog in the yard, construction blocking the drive.
Leave the approach open on the day. Parked cars, trash bins at the curb, bikes on the walkway, a package on the top step; the crew is moving heavy material from a truck to your door and needs the path clear.
And say something if the obvious entry isn't the right one. Plenty of homes have a front door nobody actually uses.
If you ordered mums
Have a watering plan for day one. Mums need water starting the day they arrive, so if your window overlaps a trip, arrange it with a neighbor now.
Pick the shady spot ahead of time, too. Direct afternoon sun is hard on mums everywhere and punishing in Phoenix; know which part of your entry gets the least of it.
Worth doing, not required
Sketch the layout. Even a rough sense of where the bales go, where the corn stalks stand, and which side takes the biggest grouping makes arranging day faster.
Clean the door and its hardware. The door is the focal point of the entire display, and a scuffed kick plate gets a lot more noticeable once everything around it is new.
Sort out the lighting. Half the season your porch is seen after dark, so if your entry light doesn't reach where the display will sit, deal with that beforehand. Keep anything you add battery or plug-in — never open flame near straw or corn stalks.
The morning of
Take a photo of the empty porch. It's satisfying to look at later; and if anything about the delivery needs sorting out, a before picture is useful.
